This diptych reimagines the familiar house from the optometric vision test as a site of memory, rupture, and altered sight. The left panel holds the house intact, suspended in a field of green beneath a dissolving sky. The right panel repeats the image, but the house burns, the horizon scarred by smoke.
Crocheted through slow, repetitive gestures, the work turns an impersonal tool of measurement into an intimate record of loss. The act of looking is reframed through the act of making: perception becomes entangled with memory, grief, and the dissolution of a long relationship.
The house stands for more than shelter; it becomes a figure of what was once called home, and what was undone. In pairing stillness with fire, vision with afterimage, In The Quiet After You asks what remains visible after love collapses, and what clarity comes only through ruin.
